Off-Campus Job Search
Begin your active job search 6-9 months in advance. Make an appointment with the Center for Career and Academic Planning to discuss your search. Also, you should consider important factors when beginning the job search including: Assess your skills, values and interests. Research and explore career options by looking at the link “What Can I do with this Major” and prepare job search material such as resumes and cover letters.
CNU Students & Alumni: The Center for Career and Academic Planning provides a free online database of job announcements to serve students and employers. By creating a FREE profile you will be able to search the companies, job postings, and qualifications.. In addition to searching for available positions you may choose to upload a résumé and have it available for employers to view. Typically employers visit the campus during the Fall and Spring semester to recruit a variety of majors for both internships and full-time opportunities. Search often to view available jobs and upcoming deadlines. This database is available to CNU students and alumni as well as employers, who can register by logging into https://cnu-csm.symplicity.com/students.
Participate in on-campus Career Fairs or networking events. Many employers and alumni visit CNU to promote their available positions as well as network with upcoming graduates. Networking involves communicating with individuals to increase professional contacts about careef fields and/or learn about job openings that may not necessarily be widely advertised. Events are held every semester througout the academic year through the Center for Career and Academic Planning, Career Connections and within academic departments.
Join Professional Associations. If there's a professional organization in your field, consider joining and begin participating in its meetings and other events. You can get to know people in your area of interes and gain further knowledge about your chosen field. Many CNU organizations provide excellent opportunities to strengthen your professional affiliations as well as serve as a great resume builder.

Interviews
The interview is your opportunity to meet with an employer and showcase your qualifications and knowledge. Prepare early by researching the employer and reviewing the job description regarding the position you are applying for. Also, candidates should prepare for various potential interview questions which may be asked including behavorial based questions. These questions typically examine how candidates may have behaved in the past in certain employment situations, which employers may feel represent how a candidate may act in the future. Practicing prior to the interview can be extremely helpful and the staff in the Center for Career and Academic Planning can provide this assistance.

- On Campus interviews through the Center for Career and Academic Planning are typically 30-45 minutes in length with a company representative in the David Student Union.
- Details on upcoming campus events and interviews can be found on

- Watch for application deadlines which are usually a minimum of two weeks prior to interviews.
- Research the company in advance and know the position description in which you are interviewing for.
- Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the interview. This general guideline should also be followed when attending outside interviews.
- Always dress professionally at every interview. Interview suits are recommended for all initial and follow up interviews.
